Mafia III: Definitive Edition lists 85 Steam achievements for AppID 360430. They cover story completion, mutually different campaign choices, racket-boss and informant treatment, underboss outcomes, combat methods, money, vehicles, collectibles-adjacent activities, and the three included story expansions. A clean roadmap is built around decision saves and current tracking behavior, not around one enormous unchecked list.

The October 8, 2026 official Steam update is a major boundary for advice. Its notes explicitly say achievement tracking was improved and progress loss when the game closed mid-session was addressed. The pilot achievements not unlocking guide therefore starts with the current build instead of recommending legacy downgrades or third-party unlockers.

Divide the 85 achievements by risk

Automatic story

These follow campaign or DLC completion. Avoid spoilers and let the relevant final conversation and save indicator finish.

Choice-dependent

Recruit-versus-kill, underboss, and ending conditions may conflict. Preserve manual saves before repeated decision patterns and the finale.

Cumulative action

Kills, takedowns, vehicle actions, money, and other counters depend on tracked behavior. Test a simple counter early on the current build.

DLC-specific

Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times add story and system challenges. Keep their checklists separate from the base campaign.

This classification tells you where to make backups. Automatic achievements need clean progression; choice achievements need branch points; cumulative achievements need reliable tracking; DLC achievements need the correct expansion state.

Start from a verified current build

Allow Steam to update, restart the client, and verify files. Open the game’s Steam achievements page and record what already unlocked. If using Steam Deck, connect online before and after a short test so local unlocks can synchronize.

Do not start by replacing the executable with an older depot. That advice grew around earlier tracking problems. The current official patch specifically targets those problems, and downgrading can introduce incompatible saves, missing fixes, and a product state this roadmap does not cover.

Similarly, avoid achievement unlockers and downloaded saves. They obscure whether the game is tracking properly and can compromise the integrity of your own progress.

Protect the campaign’s branch points

Create named manual saves before district sitdowns, repeated racket-boss or informant decisions, major underboss consequences, and the final story choice. Keep more than one generation. Steam Cloud mirrors files but is not a convenient decision-history archive.

When pursuing a choice pattern, be consistent and log each result. A campaign that mixes recruit and kill outcomes may satisfy neither achievement that expects a complete pattern. The same principle applies to informants.

Underboss and ending achievements can require different campaign outcomes. Preserve the save before the relevant final branch and allow every ending sequence to complete fully before reloading.

Handle cumulative combat goals in sessions

For takedowns, weapon kills, explosives, and vehicle actions, work in a controlled activity where the method is unambiguous. Complete the encounter and wait for the autosave. On the patched build, closing mid-session should no longer erase tracked progress in the way addressed by the update, but a save after the activity remains a sensible checkpoint.

Do not assume every environmental event counts. If an achievement names a tool or action, use that exact method and confirm Steam registers a simple milestone before repeating it dozens of times.

Avoid farming in a mission whose checkpoint rewinds before the action is saved. A repeatable open-world encounter with a clear save afterward produces stronger evidence.

Separate DLC roadmaps

Faster, Baby! has achievements tied to its story, driving, and herbalism-related systems. Stones Unturned adds combat and specialized equipment conditions. Sign of the Times includes investigation, combat, and Sammy’s bar restoration goals.

Finish each DLC main chain, verify its automatic achievement, then work on its optional systems. This prevents a missing story unlock from being discovered only after hours of secondary grinding.

Because the Steam store lists all 85 under one product, the global percentage does not tell you which expansion is incomplete. Maintain three small checklists with the exact Steam titles.

Do not confuse collectibles with achievement requirements

Mafia III has many Playboy magazines, album covers, Vargas paintings, propaganda posters, Hot Rod issues, and Repent magazines, but collecting every media item is not itself required by a full-set Steam achievement. Search them for the gallery and world detail, not because a generic completion checklist imported a rule from Mafia II.

Wiretaps, races, flips, kills, favors, and restoration tasks have different relationships to achievements. Read each current Steam description instead of treating every map icon as mandatory.

Audit an apparent miss before replaying

Check whether the achievement is hidden, delayed until a cutscene ends, or tied to a different branch. Compare the exact Steam wording with what the save actually did. Then complete one new qualifying action on the current build and remain online long enough for Steam to update.

If an automatic story achievement is absent, reload the checkpoint before the completion event and replay it after verifying files. If a cumulative achievement is absent, do not assume old progress retroactively recalculated; test current progress and keep the save intact.

Document the game build, platform, achievement name, last qualifying action, and whether the Steam overlay or page was online. That evidence is far more useful for support than “nothing unlocked.”

Completion roadmap in plain language

  1. Update and verify AppID 360430, then test one early achievement.
  2. Play the base story while keeping decision saves and a recruit/kill log.
  3. Finish the base ending branches from preserved checkpoints where possible.
  4. Clean up current-build combat, vehicle, money, and service counters.
  5. Complete each story DLC and confirm its automatic unlocks.
  6. Finish DLC systems such as herbalism or restoration with their own records.
  7. Audit the Steam list before beginning any second full campaign.

The roadmap cannot eliminate every mutually exclusive condition, but it prevents an unnecessary replay caused by a missing backup or a counter that was never tested.
